I’m Alieu D kiawu (DAYO), and I am from Liberia, west Africa. I’ve been called Dayo since my baby age. The meaning of Dayo in our vanacular ( Vai) is ” Compliment, Happiness, and a great man.
I totally disagree with you, your translated meaning of Dayo is correct but its not specifically a girl’s name, among the Yorubas (Western Nigeria), the name Dayo is giving to both male and female children and even most popularly given to a male child, i don’t know about other countries outside Nigeria. I’m male and my name is Dayo
Thanks you. Very helpful as I can considering very strongly to change my first name from Darryl to Dayo and my last name to Sundiata (as my son has done already). I jukenly for years referred to my self as DC Dayrow, making a fun referrance from Darryl to Day-Row. But now, after seeing my son legally change is name from a Euro name to an African name, I much now be totally serious as he has awaken my concern.
